What
is a Foyer
Foyers were originally instituted in France to provide safe accommodation
for young people working in cities away from the parental home, taking
up apprenticeships
on the railway or work in the urban post offices, for example, in the UK the
Young Men’s/Women’s Christian Associations offered a similar though
less official accommodation service for many young people seeking clerical work
in large cities, particularly London.
By the end of the 1980s, however, quite different needs of many young people
had become apparent. In the UK the development of the Foyer movement was inspired
by the idea that many young people’s futures might be assured through the
provision of secure accommodation allied with an individual “action plan” combining
education / training opportunities, life skills and social development goals.
Since 1992 the UK Foyer movement has provided this new type of hostel provision
for homeless young people and those in housing need, focusing on helping individuals
to achieve their “transition to independence”, with commitment to
their individual action plan a condition of residence.

Where
We Are
We are situated in the Poole area of Dorset, right near the coast.
We are close to all local amenities and are just off from the main town centre
with shops and job centre just a 2 minute walk away and the doctors, train and
bus stations a 5 minute walk away. (How close do you want to be!?). Bournemouth
town centre is a bus or train ride away taking 20-40 minutes depending on which
train or bus you get.
There is a beautiful park with a boating lake a 10 minute walk away and the local
harbour just 5 minutes walk from the foyer. Local beaches are a bit further but
this is only a 30-40 minute bus ride.
