Government
e-services

Quay Foyer is participating in a pilot project run by Ufi.

Users of the Community Learning Centre at the foyer are currently looking at
e-government services web sites.

The DirectGov, NHS, DVLA and pension service websites are all under scrutiny for user friendliness and usefulness.

The pilot project runs until June.
If you would like to look at the websites yourself click on the links above or pop-into the foyers Learning Centre.

What We're Doing Now

We are extremely lucky at the foyer to be part of a huge network of organisations that seek to create a comprehensive service to young people.

Projects that are running at the moment include web design courses, basic skills and the QF magazine.

We are also participating in a pilot project test-driving e-government websites.

We are always looking for new opportunities and experiences for our young people and welcome organisations and individuals who are able to offer time, ideas and/or run workshops.

Brunch Club

Brunch Club is still going strong (over a year now) and residents, ex residents and friends of the foyer continue to pop-in each week.

Occasionally we have had visits by 'dignitaries' from Connexions, Millenium Volunteers, YADDAS and the Waterfront Museum. If you are a youth organisation running projects for young people and would like to discuss your project at brunch call Mandy or Kira on 01202 463603

Following on from the success of the brunch club and due to suggestions from those residents who used to come along for breakfast and are now at college or in work or training, we are going to try out a dinner club, film club and music & comedy nights.

Web Design Course

The Quay Foyer is again running its short, successful Web Design course for the Quay Web Network - a group of partnership organisations wishing to create their own web sites.

The latest courses are being run for participants of the Poole Youth Forum and Poole Youth Services.

Over over the 2 years years organisations have sponsored people to learn how to build web sites and web sites have been created for youth organisations such as the Peer Listeners, Quay Advice Centre, Poole Teenage Pregnancy Unit and Poole Voluntary Service.

QF Magazine

We have been publishing the QF Magazine for over 2 years now and many of our young people have contributed poems, stories and artwork to the magazine.

Editors, designers and reporters are quay foyer residents and ex-residents who have given their time to learn about the publishing world and gain experience in researching, interviewing and writing articles.

Distribution of the magazine was widened in the second year to outside the foyer and 300 copies were distributed to over 50 youth organisations, the local library and shops.

We are able to continue the magazine for another year with a kind donation from Barclays Poole Community Programmes People. A new format and wider distribution with even more interesting content from a cavalcade of writers, artists and photographers means we heading for the next level!!

Now we are in our third year and our network has widened we hope many young people in the surrounding areas will contribute.

Our aim is to create a youth magazine that is created and run by young people for young people of issues and services that young people are interested in. Also becoming a voice of the young people in the local area to other members of the local community and running articles on youth organisations in the area so people are aware of the work that is done and the facilities and opportunities available to them.

The QF Magazine will be online sometime in the future.
