Training
/ Employment
We have good contacts with other local learning organisations and
colleges and always have up-to-date information on courses available.
We have dedicated staff who are willing to find out what YOU are interested
in and help you look for courses, training and/or employment in that area.
We have a partnership with Poole Adult Learning who run basic skills courses
in literacy and numeracy. We also run the Foyer Federations 'Learning Power
Award', Arts Award and web design
and
photgraphy
courses.
We also work closely with The Princes Trust, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
and Millenium Volunteers.
We offer workshops and support in Basic Skills, IT, the Internet and E-mail
and can help you get to grips with Word Processing and Presentation software.
We can help you with creating CVs and letters of application and help you
hone your training and job search skills (including research on the internet).
We have all the usual Microsoft programmes, like Word.
We are big on creativity and offering creative ways for people to use IT.
Our staff are skilled in web design, digital photography and video editing
as well as general art and design.
They have
ensured that we use industry standard programmes
for these and programmes include Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver,
Flash,
Fireworks and Edius Pro editing software, amongst others.

Support / Personal Action Plans
All our residents have a personal keyworker who supports them
through their time at the foyer. They are there to talk to about
any issues
you may have and give advice and guidance on getting to where you
want to
be. They
can help with benefits issues and put you in touch with other partnership
organisations that may be able to help you as well as point you in
the right direction for training, education or work if needed.

Lifeskills
At the Quay Foyer we have a lifeskills worker who helps residents
wanting to learn how to budget their money and make it go a long,
long way!
'Cooking with Kira' has been a huge success at the foyer where residents get
together, decide what dish they would like to try, budget, shop for ingredients,
cook and then eat the final product! The ingredients for the session are bought
by the foyer and there have been many happy and full people around!
The Lifeskills also ties in with the Learning Power Award.

Turquoise
Personal Development and Training

Over
the last three years Turquoise Personal Development and Training has
been working closely with us, delivering accredited
personal development training to residents as well as working with staff
to deliver the Quay Foyer Model of Change.

These initiatives have strengthened
links between our two organisations as well as demonstrating the value
of working with our partners in a wholly inclusive way to further develop
the quality of service we deliver to our residents.

Activities
We're always looking for activities that will interest our people
here and hold focus groups and run questionnaires to find out what's
wanted. Feedback has resulted in the following:-
Residents getting together to create an Arts and Crafts space. Paper, paints,
sewing machine and pool table are all available.
We also run a Brunch Club once a week where residents and staff can sit and
have breakfast together and mull over the days news and going-ons in the Foyer.
We have music workshops occasionally where people can try their hand at DJing,
MCing, drumming and guitar.
We have also had volunteer tutors who have held one-off workshops on topics such
as poetry, personal development and photography.
